I’m basically over the whole concept of “I want to look younger.” To tell you the truth, frankly, I just don’t give a dam about that. What I do care about and strive for is feeling good. That’s what does matter and we all know when you feel good, you look good. What I say nowadays is “I want to look good for my age.” Fifty is the new forty and it’s really because people are genuinely taking better care of themselves. They care what they’re putting into their bodies and on their skin. They exercise, eat right, sleep better, drink plenty of water, stay out of the sun, don’t smoke, all of that, and it shows! The fountain of youth is obtainable and affordable. I truly believe that we will get to a point where the days of injectables and fillers will be a thing of the past because the science in our products is becoming so dynamic and powerful that it simply won’t be necessary to pump our bodies full of chemicals. A more youthful appearance is possible, fast, and affordable.
So, the biggest methods to achieving the fountain of youth is daily sun protection and moisturize (duh). Without this step everything else you do is irrelevant. Moisturizing has the most important skin saving components to fight premature aging. Humectants, Hyaluronic Acid, and emollients to name a few. These ingredients bind the moisture to our skin, primarily the lipid barrier and hold it in. A balanced lipid barrier is what keeps our skin soft, supple, and glowing. Every skin type needs moisturizer. Of course, there is a specific type of moisturizer for each one and it is very important to figure out what’s the perfect fit for you. There are some great moisturizers that can add the components to your regime that will fight free radicals and go the extra mile to feed your skin well. So, no matter the skin concern, apply moisturizer. Learn what type is best for your skin. I’m always available to help you figure that out!
Healthy glowing skin is conducive to a youthful look, unfortunately sun exposure isn’t. The good news is you can achieve that healthy, balanced look with a tinted moisturizer or mineral makeup. In fact, a little tint can actually take years off of your face by evening out your skin tone and reducing the ashy tones that can come with aging skin. Don’t be afraid to highlight those cheekbones either! Basically highlighter is mineral makeup that attracts light to your face which in turn creates an illusion of brightness and height hence, that healthy and balanced glow. It also can add a lifted look as well 🙂 refrain from using it all over, we’re not going for a “just got done running a 5K look,” we want to add a subtle shimmer and brightness. Use a brush and apply highlighter on the top of the cheekbones, off to the side, under your eye area, about a fingers width away from the eye (too close and it could settle into your fine lines). For brighter eyes, it can be applied by dotting around the tear ducts and in the center of the eyelid. To give the eyes a lift, apply it under the arch of the eyebrow. These are just a few tips, but there’s lots of advice on highlighting and contouring available online and You Tube has tons of videos. There’s even ways to make your lips look poutier by applying it in the bow of your lips.
Try not to get too complex with it and have fun experimenting. In the middle of winter it can really add a lit-from-within look! Stop in the spa,our Jane Irydale line of makeup offers some really beautiful ones and we can help you get that glow-getter face!
