Book a Facial Once a Month

Be sure to book a facial once a month! The thing is, facials are like the exercise to the diet, the oil to the vehicle. Maintaining a monthly regime of a performance driven facial will help keep your skins health balanced. The list of reasons is endless but, I’m going to share some of the more important ones and explain why there is so much more to a facial than it “feels good.”

First off, the cellular turnover rate occurs about every 30 days. This basically means that it takes that long for the cells to journey from the dermis to the surface of the skin. We like to catch those dead cells and slough them away to unveil our new, fresh, skin. The best way to do that is professional exfoliation. There are many different modalities and chemical versions of this that do a beautiful job. All serve a purpose. Based on your skin type and goals, your esthetician may choose one over the other. The bottom line on exfoliation is that it will successfully slough off dead skin cells and reveal smoother skin that is brighter, radiant, and help keep you free of clogged pores and damage caused by free radicals.

Intense hydration of some sort is usually performed as well. It’s so important to maintain a stabilized barrier mantle. The barrier mantle is all that is between your skin and the outside world. Most people don’t take the necessary precautions in keeping it healthly and balanced. When this gets out of whack, it becomes compromised, thus causing the body to react internally, usually overcompensating for what it thinks is wrong. Dehydration, oiliness, drying, and acne, are some things that occur. One of my goals is to intensively hydrate that lipid barrier with serums, masks, toniques, and moisturizers. It’s like giving your skin a big drink of water.

Of course I can’t leave out one of the best parts………facial massage. Yes, we all know how good it feels but many people don’t know just how beneficial it is for your skin. The massage does put you in a blissful state of relaxation which of course, relieves tension and stress but, what else? Well, for starters, increased circulation is a biggie. The massage will activate blood and lymph circulation. When that circulation is stimulated we get oxygen moving which will do amazing things for your skin like, plumping fine lines, better color, a refreshed look, stimulated fibro-blast cells (which inspire collagen growth), lymphatic drainage which assists in

detoxification, replenishing moisture to the skin, removing impurities, even-toned skin, decreased wrinkles, muscle tone, blocked sinuses, double chins, and so much more! Getting that bounce in your skin is exercise and not only limited to a zen-like state!

One more important reason for booking that appointment is the expert skin analysis and advice you receive. For every skin type there are recommended protocols and knowing what those are will help you to not only maintain your look but achieve the desired goals you’re looking for. Someone who understands your unique skin type and how to best care for it is the only way to be guided properly on what products should be used in your home regime. This is extremely important since healthy, youthful skin is 80% what you do at home. Also, don’t forget, as we age many changes take place and your skin analysis will keep you on top of anything that is different and potentially harmful.

Putting your face in the hands of a professional can do wonders. When we were younger all we wanted to do is grow up. Now, we realize it’s not all it’s cracked up to be! Do yourself and your skin a huge favor and schedule in your “me” time on a regular basis. You’ll never be disappointed you did!
